the sun has set
the lights are bright
and i know where i’m tonight
the feeling’s good
the music’s right
now will you be the one tonight?
they walk in pairs
no not for me
we touch and stare
true fantasy
now will i be lonely?
and lost from sight?
or will you be the one tonight?
so let them say what they say when they say what they say of our fancy
we’ll make some happy and others blue
be that it may when they say how they say what they say of our fancy
this love is true dear
we can’t be blue
the sun will rise
the morning due
we’ll be together another moon
now will i be lonely?
and lost from sight?
or will you be the one tonight?

When Did The Summer End?
03:29
|
|||
when did the summer end?
i awoke too late
to a cool walk at dusk
i wander through the hush
and feel the season’s weight
the summer unrealized by what it promised to
a simple road ahead and just around the bend,
there’ll be fruit and wine
where do the people go?
where do they all go hide?
it’s just another passing day
but something comes this way
there’s a change in the sky
maybe nothing’s different
it happens every year
the cold wind kisses the leaves
so can you tell me then,
when did the summer end?

she’s gotten into my dreams
and now i’m longing for her
she’s gotten into my dreams
oh how i thought we were done for sure
she’s gotten into my mind
peace of which i cannot find
that calm i’m looking for
well quoth the raven “nevermore”
she’s haunting me with memories that are long long gone
in her long white dress, she softly sings her song
but now it’s late in the evening, and i’m afraid to sleep
for she will be there, waiting for me
oh lord she’s taken my soul
my prayers they just don’t work anymore
she’s gotten into my dreams
oh please just leave me alone
(oh how i miss her so)

Rocket Ship
05:06
|
|||
rocketship, take me to the moon
my rocketship, we’re leavin’ real soon
where it goes, out beyond the blue
my rocketship, we’re leavin’ real soon
where is she? what distance shall i pass?
a million miles? or minutes in the past?
so shoot me off through morning’s mist and dew
my rocketship, we’re leavin’ real soon
there she is through the clouds above
will i catch her there? or will she slip through my love?
a slight detour to the arms i’ve known
or release me now to the great unknown
rocketship, take me to the moon
my rocketship, will she sing me her tune?
now where it goes, out beyond the blue
my rocketship, we’re leavin’ real soon

Somewhere Down The Road
05:36
|
|||
i met you that evening
out on the north side of town
i walked on by you
and i just had to turn around
gave me the warmest welcome
someone must have taught you right
and from the bandstand baby, as the lights go dim
i try not to stare all night
you sway and glide from every corner
probably making some good money tonight
and no one else does notice this beauty i see
it must just be my time
the way you hold yourself, the way you dress my dear
is years beyond your age
did you travel in time? are you from far away?
this finger, i cannot place
now i want you, but i can’t love you tonight
even though my heart says so
but maybe we’ll meet up again
somewhere down the road
and now i’m driving the distance
but it’s hard to stay in the lines
when you gave me that number, i didn’t even have to ask
i must have done something right
i’m wondering where she goes
hell i’m wondering who she knows
the way she talked to me, the way she walked to me
girl like that don’t live alone
so i just keep on driving, until i make it back home
now don’t you get your hopes up, in what you found
you know it’s better on your own
now i want you baby
but it’s just too early in the night
you’ve got somewhere other friends to meet
somewhere you’ve never been
someone else you gotta be
so girl you go have your fun
yeah you live your life free
and on some rainy day, when you’re all alone
maybe you’ll think of me
she’s calling me most everyday now, since that beautiful night
and how i want to respond, but girl you don’t know how hard
please don’t pick this fight
you see you’ve been hanging around, down in the depths of my mind
you’ve gotten into my dreams, you’re tearing at the seams
of the ties that’ll never bind
i’m walking the other way now
yeah honey, i’m leaving the lights
i need a new attraction, not the same distractions
oh but what will i find?

I Saw You That Evening
04:54
|
|||
i saw you that evening after it was over
you looked more beautiful than i remember
did it end too soon? was it the right tune?
well everyone does love the sad and slow ones
now autumn brought no love and behind her winter’s song
with a chill to end the still of her calm
a light’s on up ahead, but for now you just pretend
and you never can go home again
he was with you that evening after it was over
i looked the other way, but i remember
it ended just as well, but not free from the spell
a bitter end to blow the wind to nowhere
now spring will come along and then summer with her song
with a breeze to end the chill of lovers gone
i saw you that evening and it was all over
you looked more beautiful than i remember

Horizon Disrupted
04:20
|
|||
horizon disrupted by the low skyline
a vision of a fantasy, that maybe someday line
you can’t see the sun fall off the western frontier
but if you wake up real early, you can see the sun rise here
you can get up real early or you can wait for the dawn
there’s nothing to lose now and nothing is wrong
someone may be waiting beneath that willow tree
or maybe just the shadow of a new born dream
i can feel the rain a comin’
i can feel the weight of the sky
as she’s down there waiting
where that bell of liberty lies
you can’t see the sun fall off the western frontier
but if you wake up real early, you can see the sun rise here
you can’t see very far on this city ground
if you want to see for miles you must be where that country wind sounds
there is no hurry, no rush to give into
and she’s down there waiting for you
a dream interrupted by the low skyline
a look on up ahead in costume disguise
a flock of seagulls fly above the brick and the wire
as the 8’oclock shadow burns into an evenin’ fire
when did the sun set? it’s just a pink-yellow glow
as the lake sits there a callin’
a pastel canvas glow
you can’t see the sun fall off the western frontier
but if you wake up real early, you can see the sun rise here

Through The Rain
05:41
|
|||
i’ll pretend that i’m not leaving
you pretend i’ll always hold you
and we’ll live this lie tonight
leave the bedroom and dry your eyes and come back with a smile
that i’ll believe this one last time
you can put on your favorite evening dress
and those special earrings
i bought for you about just one year ago
i’ll throw on my leather jacket and run a comb through my hair
and we’ll go out and have ourselves a time
stroll down the avenue
through the rain, water fills our shoes
through a yellow light, or was it already red?
we’ll make it blue and green for this night instead
we’ll race against the midnight hour and hit all our old haunts
for it may be a while till i return
they’ll give us each a generous pour
we’ll talk and laugh and smile once more
the final curtain, it soon descends
i’ll throw my arm around you, we’ll even dance to that old tune
just like that time when we had a little too much to drink
we’ll leave the bar and wave goodbye
leave a few extra bucks this time
one for you, one for me, and another for you
